Aiken and Edgefield Counties offer more than a dozen golf courses, including the Palmetto Golf Club, established in 1892 and ranked among the top ten oldest golf courses in America.
Quality of Life

Health

In addition to all of the pleasant diversions of modern Southern life, Aiken and Edgefield also give their residents an excellent foundation of social and health services. For the eighth consecutive year, School Match, a non-profit Chicago-based research firm that reviews data from the nation’s 15,576 public school systems, recognized Aiken County Public Schools for their continued excellence. In addition, Aiken County and Edgefield County schools have also received the Palmetto’s Finest award for primary school excellence from Carolina First Bank.

With a major regional medical center and several full-service area hospitals, Aiken County provides comprehensive medical services. The Aiken Regional Medical Centers combine a community hospital with specialized medicine, including the new Cancer Care Institute of Carolina, the Cardiovascular Institute of Carolina, the Women’s Lifecare Center, the Diabetes Treatment Center, and the Aurora Pavilion for psychiatric care.

Less than twenty minutes away in Augusta, the Medical University of Georgia and the MCG Health Center give community members even more options for health care. The Health Center houses an adult hospital, an Ambulatory Care Center with more than 80 outpatient clinics, a Specialized Care Center housing a 13-county Level I regional trauma center, and a Children’s Medical Center, among other offices.
